Youth Competitions 2007/08
Youth & Schools are an integral part of North Wales Men's Hockey's work and the Region runs a variety of competitions for all age groups and all levels of hockey. Junior Leagues. The major objective of the Region was to develop Junior Leagues at Under 11 and Under 13 so as to give boys across the region a chance of competitive hockey at their age group in addition to that provided by the annual RAF Careers Youth Cup. Check out the Junior League page to find out more about this exciting new competition. North Wales Men's Hockey would like to thank its major sponsors, NEWI, for their kind support of this event. Age Group TeamsThe region has traditionally run age group teams at U14, U16 and U18 level and has annual matches against South Wales, Shropshire, Cheshire and Wirral Schools. To find out more about the age group teams, check out the Age Group page. Regional AcademiesAnother exciting development is the formation of regional academies at Colwyn Bay and Wrexham for boys aged U13 and U15. This is part of the WHU's national programme for identifying talented athletes and progressing them through the regional structure and, hopefully, the national structure. Again, check out the Regional Academy page to find out more. RAF Careers Youth CupFinally, the region runs the North Wales RAF Careers Youth Cup for junior players at clubs in the region at U11, U13, U15 and U17. This is an exciting tournament where the winners (and for U11 and U13, the runners up too) go through to meet their south Wales counterparts in the national RAF Careers Youth Cup. In 2008, it is being held at NEWI, Wrexham. More information can be found on the RAF Careers Youth Cup pages. |
